People often ask me this question.......My specialty is clinical mental health counseling. Clinical mental health counseling programs prepare its students for the professional practice of counseling in a variety of work settings such as university, community agencies, clinics, hospitals, substance use disorder programs, child protective agencies, private practice, business, and industry. This curriculum has prepared me to have a significant impact on the mental health field in the areas of counseling, research, program director, grant writer, and policy maker on the local, state, and national level. The curriculum focused on a broad spectrum of issues including: assessing/evaluating, treating or working to better a disability, problem, or disorder; the antecedent conditions that predispose people to developmental, emotional, personality or relationship problems experienced by individuals, couples, families or groups; the nature and treatment of those disorders; crisis intervention strategies; and the influence of various family and group dynamics, gender differences, cultural diversity, social problems, and age on the development of various problems and symptoms.

I am a licensed professional counselor and licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor in New Jersey, a licensed clinical professional counselor in Nevada, and a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania. Currently, I manage a private practice office in Piscataway, New Jersey and provide telemental health counseling in the states of New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. In addition to practicing, I conduct professional development trainings for licensed mental health professionals at local and national conferences on the topics of mental health awareness, mental health counseling models, substance use, co-occurring conditions, intimate partner violence prevention, and recovery maintenance post incarceration. I am actively in service to my profession as a member of the American Counseling Association.

I began my career in the behavioral health field in 2001 providing individual, group, and family counseling in residential substance use care. I have worked in the following modalities: harm reduction, medication assisted treatment, outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial care, and residential care. I am highly skilled at managing complex cases that include multiple variables such as trauma, substance use, anxiety, depression, HIV/AIDS, involvement in the criminal legal system, intimate partner violence, & medical conditions. These are commonly described as co-occurring disorders. These experiences along with my education and training prepared me to practice independently as a mental health provider in private practice.
